Study visit – Regional development and cross-border cooperation

The Siret-Prut-Nistru Euroregion in partnership with the United Nations Development Program in the REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA (UNDP MOLDOVA) organized a study visit to IAŞI County from 3 to 6 September of a delegation from the REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA consisting of 17 persons (mayors, Economic directors, vice-presidents of districts, local facilitators and consultants of the Integrated Local Development Program) on regional development and cross-border cooperation in the context of European funding.

DSC_3350 siteOn September 3, the program included a suite of actions aimed at meeting the objectives of the study visit. The participants were welcomed at the County Council by Victorel LUPU, Vice-President, Lăcrămioara VERNICĂ, Secretary, Fulga TURCU, Deputy Executive Director of the Department of Projects and Sustainable Development and Executive Director of the Siret-Prut-Nistru Euroregion, Dumitru-Tudor JIJIE, Executive Director And Simona CUCIUREANU, Assistant Manager.

DSC_3438 siteVictorel Lupu, Vice-President of the Iasi County Council, addressed a welcome message to the participants and informed about the achievements obtained by the public authorities in the county in the field of attracting investments, absorbing European funds for the socio-economic and cultural development of the county communities .

DSC_3474 siteFulga Turcu, Deputy Chief Executive of the Department of Projects and Sustainable Development, presented the projects that are being implemented and are being implemented in Iasi county by accessing the European funds, including the cross-border ones. Projects covered various areas including: transport infrastructure (road, air), public health, tourism, etc.

DSC_3728The first day of the study visit ended with a cultural program aimed at visiting cultural objectives in the city of Iaşi (Golia Monastery, National Theater, Stefan cel Mare and St. Peter’s Square, City Hall, etc.). This tour was conducted by George MIRONESCU guide at the Golia Tourist Promotion Center.

DSC_3906On September 4, the second day of the study visit of the local authorities in the Republic of Moldova in Miroslava commune, Iasi County, took place. Participants in this activity were welcomed by Dan NIŢĂ, Mayor of Miroslava commune, Vasile BULBASA, deputy mayor, and Ştefan SUSAI, counselor. They addressed a welcome speech to the guests and presented a short history of Miroslava commune, the city hall’s organizational chart, the implemented projects and the development prospects of this community.

DSC_3975Dan NIŢĂ was the guide of the local authorities in the Republic of Moldova in the municipality of Miroslava, presenting the main projects realized through the absorption of the European funds (Sports Hall, Ciurbeşti photovoltaic power station, Tourist information center), then the Delphi plant, one of the most (1778 employees), the Sturdza Palace, which includes the Ethnographic Museum of Agriculture of Moldova and the Library of the “Mihail Kogalniceanu” Agricultural High School and the Agralim Fair for Farmers, the largest agrarian event of Moldova.

DSC_4109Miroslava commune is one of the most important communes in Iasi County, being a successful model in terms of rural development, attracting investors and increasing the quality of life, implicit of living standards.

At the end of the study visit in Miroslava, the perspective of the collaboration of the local authorities from the host community and the Republic of Moldova emerged through the initiation of joint projects with the same objectives.

On September 5, the third day of the study visit, the delegation made up of representatives of local authorities in the Republic of Moldova was in Prisăcăni commune, Dancu treatment plant and Anastasie Fătu Botanical Garden.

DSC_4282The delegation was met in Prisăcăni commune by dr. Constantin CHIRILĂ, mayor of the commune, at the “Nicolae” chasuble church, declared a historical monument of the county of Iaşi. It was for several hours the guide of his counterparts in the Republic of Moldova through Prisăcani commune, presenting the results of accessing the European funds: the school from Prisăcani village, a modern sports base, the treatment plant. Also, European funds have been developed and rehabilitated road infrastructure, road asphalting, and technical-town planning, by connecting homes to running water and sewage in the Moreni and Prisacani villages.

DSC_4393Contantin CHIRILĂ presented the opportunities for the community he is managing (study visits with mayors from Germany, Great Britain, France, Belgium, study visits of pupils from the villages of Prisăcani village and pupils from Belgium, etc.).

As a result of the visit from this commune, there was the opportunity to make intercultural exchanges between the children from Prisăcani and Moldovan localities and to carry out joint projects in various fields to support the communities of the participants.

DSC_4606The visit was followed by the Dancu treatment plant, the delegation being attended by Dr. Ion TOMA, General Director and Dr. Mihai DORUŞ, Technical Director. The Dancu wastewater treatment plant has been upgraded from European funds, being one of the largest in the country. The water management team presented the treatment plant and pumping station Chiriţa. It provided solutions to solve the problems faced by the mayoralties in the Republic of Moldova, indicated what problems to avoid when they were to carry out purification stations and the opportunity for Apa Vital to help the town halls of the Prut river in connection of the homes with drinking water.

The third day of the study visit ended with visiting the “Anastasie Fătu” Botanical Garden, the oldest in Romania, the greenhouses and Rosarium visited.
